CMP Magazine: What attracted you to the business of mortgage brokering?
Julie: I was employed with a major financial institution for years and had recognized a notable shift from a focus on customer service to the bottom line. I no longer felt I was serving my clients the way I wanted to. I was inspired to join my current brokerage {Bob Hanscom Mortgage Agency} after seeing that they had the same focus on customer service and dedication to their clients that I had. In addition to the Customer Service aspect, I enjoyed being able to offer different lender options to my clients to make sure they had the best mortgage for their needs.
CMP Magazine: What is most important lesson you’ve learned as an agent?
Julie: There is always more
to learn. This industry is always changing and growing. Keeping on top of
the market changes and staying knowledgeable about our lenders and their
products keeps me on top of my game. I feel it is very important to keep
up to date to make sure I am providing my clients and referral sources with the
best advice.
CMP Magazine: What’s the most important thing the industry can do to support new agents?
Julie: It is essential that all new mortgage agents are mentored properly. There is not only a huge learning curve in this job with product knowledge, but there is a standard of professional conduct required in the mortgage industry that is best realized when you have good supervision and assistance. Making sure that new agents have the tools and guidance they need to learn this industry and provide excellent service is not only best for the agent, but for the reputation of the entire industry.Julie's interview will appear in the May 2012 issue of CMP Magazine which you can see here:
