Our Special Cause Donations: Part 1 of 4

Our mortgage associates recently had the opportunity to present money raised at the Bob Hanscom Mortgage Agency Charity event in October to our special charities.

The associates were so proud to give the much needed funds to our four Special Causes, as selected by you, our clients:

Special Cause #1: The Stollery

The Stollery is an invaluable resource in the community. Here are a few incredible facts about how the Stollery operates and what they do for families and children in need:
  • Last year, the Stollery had over 150,000 patient visits.  This equates to an average of 410 patient visits every day
  • The Stollery has the largest catchment area of any children’s hospital in Canada, representing 1.7 million children and youth.  These children come mainly from central and northern Alberta, northern British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and the Yukon
  • The Stollery treats children from pre-mature birth to 17 years of age
  • It is the primary acute care facility for all of central and northern Alberta, and other parts of western and northern Canada
  • The Stollery is the referral centre for all complex pediatric heart surgeries and transplants both in Alberta and for much of the rest of Canada
  • It is the major hard organ transplantation centre for Western Canada
  • The Stollery provides some of the most advanced treatments for child health issues in the country
  • It is the only specialized pediatric emergency in this region
The Stollery Emergency Department was originally built to treat 11,000 patients per year – on average 30 patients per day. Last year, the Stollery saw more than 28,000 patients – on average 76 patients per day – that is more than double its physical capacity.

The expansion of the Stollery emergency department has an estimated project cost of $26 million.  The Government of Alberta committed $18.5 million for this expansion – with the Foundation dedicated to raising the remaining funds to bridge the funding gap.
