Alberta is still affordable

Alberta is a beautiful place to live....and also very affordable when you compare a city like Edmonton to San Francisco

We recently got back from a trip to San Fran. We enjoyed it immensely, but we were thankful to come home to such open space, minimal traffic (I know, it often feels like more, but trust us when we say it's nothing like California traffic), large homes, new homes overall and affordability.

The average rent in San Fran for a 1 BR apartment inches towards $2800/month, and goes as high as $3500 a month in top neighbourhoods like SOMA. For "larger" space with rents as high as $10,000 a month, it's a wonder people can afford to live there.

What about housing? Only 37% of San Franciscans own their homes, with a median housing price of $737,000. Our median home price, according to the most recent MLS stats is $330,000, with home ownership rates nearly doubling San Fran.

All of this, plus not to mention the Canadian Banking system has done well to keep our mortgage market stable. We sure are lucky.
