A Tip for Pregnant Homebuyers

When my husband and I learned about the pregnancy, we were over the moon excited. And we knew we had to move.

Our small bungalow with one bedroom on the main level wasn't going to suit our needs anymore. So we analyzed and projected our budget for what we could afford and went house hunting.

At the time, both my husband and I had full time jobs. The idea was for me to go back to work after a maternity leave.

However, we didn't count on how having our son would impact our values. And this is something we definitely hadn't planned for!

We purchased a home with a price point near the top of where we wanted to spend. We moved in and we were in love. What a great home!

When our son was born, we both realized that we wanted to have me stay home for the first several years, not just the maternity leave.

Looking back now, we should have budgeted for the worst case scenario: 1 steady income.

That would be our tip for any homebuyers shopping for a home while pregnant. You won't know how you feel about going back to work until after you have the baby! If at all possible, budget for one income and your options of how long you wish to stay at home with your baby will be limitless.
